Winter Fun
Big Hill
Here's a great big hill
With snow all over the side
Let's take down our sleds
And down the hill we slide.
by Marion Grayson
Come Skating
They said come skating;
They said it's so nice.
They said come skating;
I'd done it twice.
They said come skating;
It sounded nice...
I wore roller-
They meant ice.
by Shel Silverstein
Here's Hill
Here's a hill, all covered with snow
We'll jump on our sleds
Zoom! Down we go.
It is Winter
It is winter.
It is winter.
I want to play.
I want to play.
Let's build a snowman.
Let's build a snowman.
What do you say?
What do you say?
My Mother Took Me Skating
My mother took me skating
And we glided on the ice
I wasn't very good at it
And stumbled more than twice
My mother made a figure eight
And since it seemed like fun
I tried a little trick myself
And made a figure one

My Toboggan and I carve Winter
My toboggan and I carve winter
We crunch over the powdery snow
the one by one glistening grains
the sigh and squeak
then RACE
faster and faster
whipping the wind apart
carving jet trails with swirling tails
circling the shadow of every tree
nearing full flight
'til
WHOMP!
a lurking bump tumbles us
into the drifts of freezing snow
We trudge slowly skyward for
another run.
by Jane Wadley
Never Mind the Weather (to Jack
and Jill)
Get your hat and get your mitts
And never mind the weather,
Dance about and laugh and shout,
Because we're all together.
Get your boots and get your suits
And never mind the weather.
Roll about and toss and shout
Because we're all together.
Get your skis, your skates, your sleds
And never mind the weather.
Slide and glide, and slip and slide
Because we're all together.
Shadow Thought
The winter sun stays close to me,
It watches where I go,
And my shadow is the shadow
Of a giant in the snow.
by Jack Prelutsky
Sing a Song of Winter (tune of
Sing a Song of Sixpence)
Sing a song of winter
A snowstorm in the sky
Four and twenty snowflakes
Swirl so quickly by
I am so warm and cozy
I skip along and sing
Mittens on and warm scarf on
And boots and everything.
Sing a Song of Winter (tune of
The More We Get Together)
Come sing a song of winter
Of winter, of winter
Come sing a song of winter
The cold days are here.
With snowing and blowing
And rosy cheeks glowing
Come sing a song of winter
The cold days are here.
Sledding
High hills, spins, spills
Winter thrills, we're sledding
Gliding, riding, slipping, sliding
Flying, crying, we're sledding.
Sliding (tune of Row Row)
Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch
Up the hill we go
Sliding, sliding, sliding, sliding
Down the hill we go.
Snow (to This Old Man)
Snow is falling on the ground.
We can make things all around.
Like snowmen, snowballs,
Snow forts too.
There are lots of things to do.
Snow is falling come and see.
You can have some fun with me.
Sliding, skating, skiing too.
There are lots of things to do.
Snowball
I made myself a snowball
As perfect as could be.
I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.
I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed.
by Shel Silverstein
Surprise
I opened my eyes and my room was
bright
I wondered what had happened outside
last night
I opened the windows and let everyone
know
The world was covered with fluffy
white snow
I grabbed my mittens, my scarf, and my
suit
And pulled on my brand new winter
boots
I ran outside and I started to play
And I hoped that the snow was here to
stay.
Winter, Winter!
Winter, winter.
Let's go skate.
Winter, winter.
Don't be late.
Winter, winter.
Let's go roll.
Winter, winter.
In the snow.
Winter, winter!
Winter, winter!
Woman Skating
With arms wide the skater turns
Leaving her breath like a diver's
trail of bubbles
Sees the ice as what it is
