Bugs

Arabella Miller

Little Arabella Miller,
Found a furry caterpillar,
First it crawled upon her mother,
Then upon her little brother,
Both cried, "Naughty Arabella,
Put away that caterpillar!"

A Roly-Poly Caterpillar

Roly-poly caterpillar into a corner crept.
Spun around himself a blanket, then for a long time slept.
Roly-poly caterpillar wakened by and by.
Found himself with beautiful wings, changed into a butterfly.

Baby Bumblebee

I'm bringing home my baby bumblebee
Won't my mother be so proud of me
I'm bringing home a baby bumblebee
Ouch! It just stung me
I'm squishing up the baby bumblebee
Won't my Mommy be so proud of me
I'm squishing up my baby bumblebee
Ooh! Gross! It's so yucky!
I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee
Won't my Mommy be so proud of me
I'm wiping off the baby bumblebee
Now my Mommy won't be mad at me!

Bug

I saw a bug with twenty feet
Go crawling up and down the street
And wondered if he stubbed one toe
If he would ever really know.

Bugs (tune of Frère Jacques)

Big bugs, small bugs, big bugs, small bugs,
See them crawl, see them crawl.
Creepy, creepy, crawling, never, never falling
Bugs, bugs, bugs. Bugs, bugs, bugs.
Thin bugs, fat bugs, thin bugs, fat bugs
See them crawl, on the wall?
Creepy, creepy, crawling, never, never falling
Bugs, bugs, bugs. Bugs, bugs, bugs.

Bumble Bee (tune of Robin Hood)

Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee
Flying through the air.
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Landing in my hair.
What should I do?
I'm so-o scared!
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee!

Bumblebee

Brightly colored bumblebee
Looking for some honey.
Flap your wings and fly away
While it is still sunny.

Bumblebee

Bumblebee was in the barn, (circle finger in air)
Carrying his dinner under his arm. (circle finger closer to child)
Bzzzzz... (gently poke child)

Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee

Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Buzzing all around.
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Buzzing on the ground.
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Buzzing up so high.
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Buzzing in the sky.
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Buzzing past your toes.
Bumble Bee, Bumble Bee,
Buzzing on your nose.

Busy Little Ants

Ants are always busy
They hurry here and there
You never see one sleeping
Or sitting in a chair.
I can see a hundred ants
A thousand ants and more,
Crawling up and down their hill
And in and out each door.

Busy Little Bee

"I'm busy, busy, busy,"
Said a busy little bee,
"For I'm collecting honey,
Don't you see!
And to fill my little store
I shall need some more,
So I'm busy, very busy,
Don't you see!"

Butterfly

A fuzzy caterpillar wiggled down a tree
He wiggled long, he wiggled short, he wiggled right to me
I put him in a covered box, "Don't go away," I said
Buy when I looked inside the box, I found a butterfly instead.

 Butterfly

Bright colored butterfly
Looking for honey
Spread your wings
And fly away while it's sunny.

Butterfly Hunting

With a net I go hunting.
To catch a butterfly.
But when he's caught,
I turn him loose.
To fly back into the sky.

Butterfly Poem

I am just an egg
No bigger than a dot
If you look very carefully
You'll find my special spot
Underneath a leaf
My mother put me down
To guard me from my enemies
So I cannot be found
Butterfly, butterfly, brighten summer days
The beauty of the butterfly started this way.

Buzzing Around the Room (tune of When Johnny Comes Marching Home)

A bee is buzzing round the room,
Buzz buzz, buzz buzz.
A bee is buzzing round the room,
Buzz buzz, buzz buzz.
He'll buzz around the room once more,
And then he'll buzz right out the door.
And we'll all be glad when
He is gone once more.

Caterpillar

I can see a caterpillar wriggling on a leaf.
It wriggles on the top and it wriggles underneath.
Then one day it's very still.
I stand quietly watching till
It changes shape and falls asleep.
Every day I take a peep.
Then at last, it moves about.
I'm so surprised, I give a shout.
For now there's a butterfly
Sitting on the leaf.
It spreads its wings
And flies about.

Caterpillar

Ten little eggs all in a mound
Out come caterpillars crawling all around
Next they will sleep and we know why
Soon they'll come out as butterflies

Caterpillar

One hungry caterpillar went out for a treat
He spotted some leaves and began to eat
Well he ate and he ate
And when he was done
He was a bigger caterpillar that when he begun.

Caterpillar

There was a little caterpillar
Crawling all about
He worked and he worked without a doubt
Wrapping himself in a snug cocoon
Waiting and waiting, will it be soon
Look he's coming out, my oh my
For now he's become a beautiful butterfly.

Caterpillar Crawl

Caterpillar crawl
Along the floor
First move your hands
One, two, three, four.
Now move your feet,
One, two, three, four.

Caterpillar Crawling

One little caterpillar crawled on my shoe,
Another came along and now there are two.
Two little caterpillars crawled on my knee
Another came along and now there are three.
Three little caterpillars crawled on the floor.
Another came along and then there were four.
Four little caterpillars watch them crawl away
They'll all turn into butterflies some fine day.

Caterpillars

"Let's go to sleep," the little caterpillar said.
As they tucked themselves into their beds.
They will awaken by and by.
And each one will be a lovely butterfly.

Chrysalis

Here is the chrysalis on a twig on a tree
Something is stirring. Let's wait and see
Something comes out with wings folded tight
Now they are spreading all ready for flight
It's a beautiful fluttery butterfly
Away it goes flying - goodbye, goodbye.

Creepy Crawly Caterpillar

A creepy crawly caterpillar that I see
Makes a chrysalis in the big old tree.
He stays there and I know why
Because soon he will be a butterfly.

Crickets

There's a noisy little cricket, that's as lively as can be.
There's noisy little cricket, and he always sings to me.
There's a noisy little cricket and when everything is still,
That noisy little cricket sings beneath my window sill.
One more cricket came along to help the cricket with his song.
Two noisy crickets are as lively as can be.
Two noisy crickets always sing to me.
Two noisy crickets when everything is still
Two noisy crickets sing beneath my window sill.
One more cricket came along to help the crickets with the song.
(continue...)

Cute Caterpillar

My tummy is fat (snap, snap)
I like it like that (snap, snap)
I wiggle around
I jiggle around
My tummy is fat (snap, snap)
I'm a striped caterpillar (snap, snap)
I'm such a chubby feller
I love to eat and eat
Those leaves are a treat,
I'm a striped caterpillar (snap, snap)

Eensy Weensy Spider

Eensy weensy spider went up the water spout.
Down came the rain and washed the spider out.
Out came the sunshine and dried up all the rain.
So the eensy weensy spider went up the spout again.

First (tune of Up on the Housetop)

First comes the butterfly and lays its eggs
Out comes the caterpillar with its many legs
Oh, see the caterpillar spin and spin
A little chrysalis to sleep in
Oh, oh, oh, look and see
Oh, oh, oh, look and see
Out of the chrysalis, my oh my
Out comes a pretty butterfly.

Five Busy Honey Bees

Five busy honey bees were resting in the sun.
The first one said, "Let us have some fun."
The second one said, "Where shall it be?"
The third one said, "In the honey tree."
The fourth one said, "Let's make some honey sweet."
The fifth one said, "With pollen on our feet."
The five little busy bees sang their buzzing tune,
As they worked in the beehive all that afternoon.
Bzzzzzz! Bzzzzzz! Bzzzzzz! Bzzzzzz! Bzzzzzz!

Five Little Ladybugs

Five little ladybugs climbing up a door
One flew away then there were four
Four little ladybugs sitting on a tree
One flew away and then there were three
Three little ladybugs landed on a shoe
One flew away and then there were two.
Two little ladybugs looking for some fun
One flew away and then there was one
One little ladybug sitting in the sun
She flew away and then there were none.

Five Little Silkworms

Five little silkworms, crawling on the floor,
One started spinning, now there are four.
Four little silkworms, as busy as can be,
One began to make a cocoon, and now there are three.
Three little silkworms, need a place to spin to,
One found his spot and now there are two.
Two little silkworms said, "That looks like fun,"
One more got to work, now there is one.
One little silkworm, finally made his cocoon;
Be very patient, they will all be moths very soon.

Five Pretty Butterflies

Refrain to be repeated after every line:

Flittery-flutter, the color of butter.
Flittery-flutter, their golden wings glitter,
Beautiful butterflies fluttering by.

One pretty butterfly fluttered and flew.
Another one joined her and then there were two.

Two pretty butterflies sat in a tree.
They called their first cousin and then there were three.

Three pretty butterflies flew near my door.
Along came another one and then there were four.

Four pretty butterflies, when they arrived,
Sent for their sister and then there were five.

Flutter Flutter Butterfly (tune of Twinkle Twinkle)

Flutter, flutter butterfly
Floating in the summer sky
Floating by for all to see
Floating by so merrily
Flutter, flutter, butterfly
Floating in the summer sky.

Funny Little Caterpillar

Funny little caterpillar
Crawling on the ground.
Funny little caterpillar
Nowhere to be found.
Though we've looked and looked
And hunted everywhere around!

Fuzzy Wuzzy Caterpillar

Fuzzy wuzzy caterpillar
Into a corner will creep
He'll spin himself a blanket
And then go fast asleep.

Fuzzy wuzzy caterpillar
Wakes up by and by
To find he has wings of beauty,
Changed to a butterfly.

Grasshopper Green

Grasshopper Green is a comical chap,
He lives on the best of fare.
Bright little trousers, jacket and cap,
These are his summer wear.
Out in the meadow he loves to go,
Playing away in the sun.
It's hoppity, skippity, high and low,
Summer's the time for fun.
Grasshopper Green has a quaint little house,
It's under the hedge so gay.
Grandmother Spider, as still as a mouse,
Watches him all the way.
Gladly he's calling the children, I know,
Out in the beautiful sun,
It's hoppity, skippity, high and low,
Summer's the time for fun.

Honeybee

Brown and yellow honeybee settle on a bloom
Sip a little nectar, smell the sweet perfume
Brown and yellow honeybee, fly from flower to flower
Then fly away for you don't like
The rain of a summer shower.

Inch Worms

5 inchworms inching up a tree
5 insects invited them to see
An iguana inside the tree
Use your imagination and you will see
10 having fun with an iguana in the tree.

Ladybug

Ladybug, ladybug
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire.
Your children are alone.

Ladybug

Ladybug, ladybug
Fly away home.
Your house is on fire
And your children are at home.
All except one
Her name is Ann
And she hid under
The frying pan.

Ladybug

When strolling through the garden
You should chance to see
A ladybug out walking,
Please say hi for me
For a ladybug is a good bug
And she helps the garden grow
She's supposed to bring good luck
So be sure to say hello.

Ladybugs (tune of London Bridge)

The ladybug is round and red
Round and red, round and red,
The ladybug is round and red,
Two antennae on her head.

by Cristina Syrnyk

Lady Bugs

I saw a little lady bug flying in the air,
But when I tried to catch her, two bugs were there.
Two little lady bugs flew up in a tree.
I tiptoed very quietly, and then I saw three.
Three little lady bugs - I looked for one more.
I saw one sitting on the ground; that made four.
Four little lady bugs - another one arrived.
I saw her sitting on a flower, and that made five.
Five little ladybugs, all red and black-
I clapped my hands and shouted, and they all flew back.

Ladybugs Fly (tune of Three Blind Mice)

Fly, fly, fly, ladybugs fly
Fly over here, fly over there
They fly up high and they fly down low
Around and around and around they go
They fly very fast and they fly so slow
Oh, ladybugs fly

Lightning Bug

I envy you, oh lightning bug,
You worry not a bit,
For when you see a traffic cop
You know your taillight's lit.

Little Ants

One little ant, two little ants,
Three little ants I see.
Four little ants, five little ants,
Lively as can be.
Six little ants, seven little ants,
Eight in a bowl of glass.
Nine little ants, ten little ants
Entertain our class.

Little Brown Snail

Little brown snail
Sliding slowly by
With your two antennae
Pointing to the sky.

Little Grasshopper (tune of Cucaracha)

Little grasshopper, little grasshopper,
Hop across the grassy land.
Little grasshopper, little grasshopper,
Hop into my open hand.
Little grasshopper, little grasshopper,
Sweet and green as you can be.
Little grasshopper, little grasshopper,
Hop away so safe and free.

Little Wiggle Worm (tune of I'm a Little Teapot)

I'm a little wiggle worm, watch me go
I can wiggle fast or very, very slow
I wiggle all around then back I go
Down into the ground to the home I know.

Metamorphosis (tune of Skip to My Lou)

I'm a tiny egg under a leaf
I'm a tiny egg under a leaf
I'm a tiny egg under a leaf
That's the first part of my metamorphosis.
I'm a hungry caterpillar eating up leaves
I'm a hungry caterpillar eating up leaves
I'm a hungry caterpillar eating up leaves
That's the second part of my metamorphosis.
I make a chrysalis and take a nap inside
I make a chrysalis and take a nap inside
I make a chrysalis and take a nap inside
That's the third part of my metamorphosis.
I wake up and emerge as a butterfly
I wake up and emerge as a butterfly
I wake up and emerge as a butterfly
That's the fourth part of my metamorphosis.

Munch, Munch, Munch

Five green leaves, hanging on the tree
Five green leaves swaying in the breeze
Along came a caterpillar looking for his lunch
Gobbled up the first leaf, munch, munch, munch

Mr. Butterfly

Butterfly, butterfly, where do you fly?
Where do you go alone?
Is it for flowers and honey that you spy?
Have you a home of your own?
What is your name?
Do you live in the wood?
And what do you come to see?
Dear Mr. Butterfly, won't you tell
Your secrets to someone like me?

New Butterfly

On a milkweed leaf, here is a cocoon.
Something is happening. Will it be soon?
Oh, it is coming, with wings folded so.
Now they are spreading, ready to go.
Look at the green and gold butterfly.
Fly away, fly away! Good-bye!

Nobody Likes Me

Nobody likes me.
Everybody hates me.
Guess I'll go eat some worms.
Long, thin, slimy ones.
Short, fat, juicy ones.
Itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Down goes the first one.
Down goes the second one.
Oh, how they wiggle and squirm.
Long, thin, slimy ones.
Short, fat, juicy ones.
Itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Up comes the first one.
Up comes the second one.
Oh, how they wiggle and squirm.
Long, thin, slimy ones.
Short, fat, juicy ones.
Itsy bitsy fuzzy wuzzy worms.

Oh, The Ants Are Busy (tune of She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain)

Oh, the ants are busy, busy as can be
Oh, the ants are busy, busy as can be
See them dig and dig and dig
Lots of tunnels, oh, so big,
Oh, the ants are busy, busy as can be.

Old Sammy Snail

Old Sammy Snail,
He crawls down the leaf,
He takes his time,
'Cause he hasn't any feet!

Once I Saw A Beehive

Once I saw a beehive
Out in the maple tree
I said, "Little honeybees,
Come and play with me."
Bzzzz went the honeybees
Inside the hive
And then they came out,
One, two, three, four, five.

One, Two, Three

One, two three.
Johnny caught a flea.
Flea died, Johnny cried.
Tee-hee-hee.

Pretty Little Butterfly

Pretty little butterfly, what do you do all day?
I fly around the flowerpots, nothing else to do but play
Nothing to do but play, darling, nothing to do but play
So fly butterfly, fly butterfly, don't waste your time away.

Pretty Butterflies

Oh, the pretty butterflies,
How they fly, how they fly.
Oh, the pretty butterflies,
How they circle in the sky.
Oh, they wind in and out,
In and out, in and out,
Oh, they wind in and out,
See them flying all about.

Singing With the Insects

Ladybird beetles
Ladybird beetles
See them crawl
On the wall
Catching all the aphids
Eating all the aphids
Yum, yum, yum, yum, yum, yum.
Fuzzy caterpillar
Fuzzy caterpillar
On a tree
On a leaf
Making a chrysalis
Changing in the chrysalis
Big surprise, butterfly!

Six Little Beetles

Six little beetles liked to play.
Two little beetles scampered away.
Only four little beetles were left to play.
Four little beetles began to race.
Two little beetles left their place.
Two little beetles were left to play.
Two little beetles got a drink.
Two little beetles left, I think.
Six little beetles said, "We'd rather
That all of us beetles got back together."

Six Silly Spiders

Six silly spiders standing in a row
They do not know where to go
But when the rain comes down in a spray
They will be off and on their way.

Sleepy Caterpillars

Let's go to sleep the little caterpillars said
As they tucked themselves into their beds
They will awaken by and by
And each one will be a lovely butterfly.

Slowly, Slowly

Slowly, slowly, very slowly creeps the garden snail
Slowly, slowly, very slowly up the garden rail
Quickly, quickly, very quickly, runs the little mouse
Quickly, quickly, very quickly to his little house.

Snail

Slow as a snail,
That’s what they say.
The snail slowly creeps along its way.
Snails in the desert,
Snails in the sea,
Snails in the forest crawling free.
Snails may be slow,
But this I’ve found:
Slowly but surely they get around!

Spider

Spin, spider, spin!
Spin your web round and wide,
Spin your silky web with pride,
Greet the guests who come inside,
Spin, spider, spin!

Spider on the Floor

There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.
Who could ask for any more than a spider on the floor,
There's a spider on the floor, on the floor.

Now the spider's on my leg, on my leg.
Oh, the spider's on my leg, on my leg.
Oh, he's really really big! This old spider on my leg.
There's a spider on my leg, on my leg.

Now the spider's on my stomach, on my stomach.
Oh the spider's on my stomach, on my stomach.
Oh, he's just a big old lummock, this old spider on my stomach.
There's a spider on my stomach on my stomach.

Now the spider's on my neck, on my neck.
Oh, the spider's on my neck, on my neck.
Oh, I'm gonna be a wreck, I've got a spider on my neck.
There's a spider on my neck on my neck.

Now the spider's on my face, on my face.
Oh, the spider's on my face, on my face.
Oh, what a big disgrace, I've got a spider on my face.
There's a spider on my face, on my face.

Now the spider's on my head, on my head.
Oh, the spider's on my head, on my head.
Oh, I wish that I were dead, I've got a spider on my head.
There's a spider on my head, on my head.

But he jumps off....

Now there's a spider on the floor, on the floor.....

Spring Style

Caterpillars, dressed in fur
Look elegant and grand
If I dressed that way in spring
No one would understand

That Bug!

That big bug is on my back,
That big bug is on this rock,
That big bug is on this pack,
That big bug is on my sock,
Ug! Ug! Ug! Bug.
Go back to the rug!

The Apple and the Worm

I bit an apple
That had a worm.
I swallowed the apple
I swallowed the worm.
I felt it squiggle,
I felt it squirm.
I felt it wiggle,
I felt it turn.
It felt so slippery,
Slimy, scummy,
I felt it land - PLOP-
In my tummy!
I guess that worm is there to stay
Unless…
I swallow a bird some day!

The Chrysalis

Here is the chrysalis on a twig on a tree.
Something is stirring.
Let's wait and see.
Something comes out with wings folded tight.
Now they are spreading all ready for flight.
It's a beautiful fluttery butterfly.
Away it goes flying - goodbye, goodbye.

The Grasshopper

There was a little grasshopper
Who was always on the jump.
And because he never looked ahead,
He always got a bump.

The Insects and Spiders (tune of Wheel on the Bus)

The bugs in the air fly up and down, up and down, up and down.
The bugs in the air fly up and down, all through the day.
The spiders on the bush spin a web...
The crickets in the field hop up and down...
The bees in their hive go buzz, buzz, buzz...

The Ladybugs

Tick-tack-tick-tack! See them go,
Four little ladybugs are marching in a row.
The first one is yellow with specks of black.
The second one is orange with a round and shiny back.
The third one is bright red with teeny, tiny dots.
The fourth one is fancy with different kinds of spots.
Ladybugs help people. Ladybugs have use.
They eat up pests on tree leaves 'cause aphids they reduce.

The Snail

Hand in hand you see us well,
Creep like a snail into his shell.
Ever nearer, ever nearer,
Ever closer, ever closer,
Very snug indeed you dwell,
Snail within your tiny shell.

The Termite Song (tune of Old MacDonald)

I'm a termite in a log
Living peacefully
I bore through wood and eat my fill
It's a rotten home for me
With a crunch, crunch, gulp
And a crunch, crunch, gulp
Firewood, plywood
Any kind of wood would
Suit me fine and always be
A rotten home for me!

This Little Cricket

The first little cricket played a violin.
The second little cricket joined right in.
The third little cricket made a crackly song.
The fourth little cricket helped him along.
The fifth little cricket cried, "Crick-crick-cree."
The orchestra is over and it's time for tea!

To a Centipede and His Hundred Legs

A centipede was happy quite,
Until a frog in fun
Said, "Pray, which leg comes after which?"
This raised her mind to such a pitch,
She lay distracted in the ditch,
Considering how to run.

Walkingsticks

Walkingsticks
Like a twig
Doing a jig,
They are usually green and brown
Crawling, crawling up and down
They are insects
What great pets!

Wasps on the Wall

5 wasps on the wall
How could they hurt me, they are so small
I'll spray some water so they will fall
Uh oh! I'd better run!
They're after me, five wasps in all.

What Do You Suppose?

What do you suppose?
A bee sat on my nose.
Then what do you think?
He gave me a wink
And said, "I beg your pardon,
I thought you were the garden!"

Wiggle Worm

Do you always have to wiggle?
Do you always have to squirm?
You wiggle and jiggle, like a regular wiggle worm.
You wiggle in your chair, and wiggle in your bed.
And wiggle with your legs, and you wiggle with your head.
You wiggle with your hands, and you wiggle with your feet.
You wiggle when you're playing and you wiggle when you eat.
I guess you're made to wiggle,
And I guess you're made to squirm.
You wiggle and you jiggle just like a wiggle worm.

Wiggly Worm

Wiggly, wiggly, wiggly worm.
Wiggles out of the earth so firm.
While listening, listening, listening low,
Mr. Robin catches the worm below.

Worm

Wiggle, wiggle, squiggle, squiggle,
Wiggly, squiggly worm.
With no backbone, with no legs,
How you twist and squirm!
Wiggle, wiggle, squiggle, squiggle,
All along the ground.
With your special sense of touch
